NYU Langone Unveils $60M Women’s Health Collaborative

NYU Langone Health is making significant strides in women's healthcare with the introduction of the Mignone Women's Health Collaborative. This $60 million effort is geared towards providing comprehensive and integrated healthcare services to women at every stage of their lives.

Philanthropists Allison and Roberto Mignone contributed $50 million, with an additional $10 million from Ken Griffin, to establish this collaborative. It encompasses over 20 medical and wellness disciplines, offering everything from preventive screenings to aging wellness programs.

Inspiration from Personal Experience

The conception of this initiative stems from Allison Mignone's battle with triple-negative breast cancer. Her treatment journey at NYU Langone, guided by Dr. Deborah Axelrod and Dr. Mihye Choi, revealed critical gaps in women's healthcare, including the need for coordinated and empathetic services.

Mignone expressed a desire to create a system that is honest and supportive for women facing diverse health challenges, whether they require routine checkups or navigate complex diagnoses.

Holistic Care Model

A team of 125 specialists in gynecology, internal medicine, and beyond will deliver personalized care across NYU Langone's facilities. This program prioritizes cohesive treatment over fragmented healthcare experiences.

The services provided include fertility care, menopause support, fibroid treatment, and mental wellness resources, aiming to simplify navigation and enhance comprehensive support for women.

Introduction of the Griffin Healthspan and Vitality Center

Complementing the collaborative is the Griffin Healthspan and Vitality Center, funded by Ken Griffin, focusing on wellness and longevity for women. This initiative offers fitness classes, nutritional advice, and mental health support.

Griffin emphasizes the importance of equal access to innovative healthcare for women, providing them tools for better quality of life as they age.

Advancing Medical Education

The collaborative is also set to transform medical education at NYU Langone by introducing coursework that addresses women's health disparities. This educational focus aims to train healthcare providers who can empathize with and address the unique medical needs of women.

Dr. Bret Rudy highlights the goal of equipping future medical professionals with a comprehensive understanding of women's health, closing historical gaps in outcomes.

Commitment to Equity and Access

Traditionally, women's health has suffered from insufficient funding and research. The Mignone Women's Health Collaborative aims to rectify this by promoting equitable and personalized healthcare services.

Allison Mignone stresses the importance of building trust and accessibility, ensuring that women from all backgrounds receive a high standard of care. This initiative positions NYU Langone as a leader in women's health, dedicated to innovation and compassionate service.
